Wet Process
Fiberboard has been made using what we call a “wet” process for almost a century and the finished boards have been used in a wide variety of applications including many types of building and construction materials, tack boards, table pads, fire starters and even car parts.
The process itself involves creating wood chips from sustainably managed forests (FSC) and pulverizing them in high heat. Then the chips are combined with water and paraffin wax and formed into a slurry. As the slurry moves along a long conveyer belt, water is removed until the correct thickness and moisture content are achieved.
Any water that is pulled out of the slurry in the process is reclaimed and reused – it is never released into the environment. Additionally, any waste material, including sawdust is utilized in as biomass energy onsite.
